Impressions from SAP TechEd 2010 Las Vegas

What happens in Vegas – stays in Vegas!
…or so the saying goes, right? Well, I guess that only applies for stories that are not ‘kosher‘ or NOT suitable to share with a public audience (aka NSFW.) And while Las Vegas certainly provides a lot of opportunities for such stories, there are indeed plenty of good reasons to talk about what is happening in Vegas. Especially if there’s SAP TechEd in town, so here we go…
Just as I did with my wrap-up blog post about SAP TechEd Berlin, I’ll try my best to summarize the event by cross-referencing other people’s great blogs. Those who know me, also know that one of my favorite topics and area of expertise is composition. Hence, I thought why try to write it all down myself and still go second-best to what other people already wrote about the event? Not the way to go… instead, I’ll go ahead and wrap it all up via composition or, if that term doesn’t strike a nerve, let’s call it enterprise mash-up! ;)

Impressions from SAP TechEd 2010 Berlin
It’s that time of year…
The German summer was sort of a let-down (again) and fall has silenty taken its place. It’s mid of October and as such it’s about time to write the annual wrap-up about what’s been hot and not at this year’s SAP TechEd. For a pleasant change (or is my memory playing tricks on me on this one) this time around Berlin was the first location to host THE event for the more technical-oriented people within the SAP Community. (Maybe we should rotate them from now on?)

SAP Mentors – Monday Webinar Recap – Intro to Class Fall 2010
SAP Mentor Monday
So, there they were…. my five minutes of fame, so to speak. Well, a littlebit more than that actually. At the end it took me around 13 minutes to briefly introduce myself plus to do a short demo on scalable service interfaces. Did I overdo it? I have to admit that I didn’t do a timed test-run, which Otto rightly wondered about… (guess I read 5+8 minutes instead of 5-8 minutes).
Anyway, so here it goes – my self-reflection upon my introduction at the last SAP Mentor Monday webinar.
If you haven’t watched the recording yet (what could have been more important? ;)) - you can do so following this link: https://sap.na.pgiconnect.com/p37466139

SAP Mentors #1 – Howling at the Harvest Moon
Introduction

Oh wow… word is on the street! Mark Finnern announced the new SAP Mentors:Welcome New SAP Mentors Fall 2010.
And well, … my name is on that list, and while I’ve known about the nomination for months back I have kept silent on the fact. You know, I’m that nerdy to consider a nomination for SAP Mentors like being nominated for playing in the national team – just better! Being around the SAP Community Network for 3 years now, I’ve seeing this initiative lift off and really forming a tribe that makes a change – simply through their multiplier capabilities. As such, being nominated is already a very positive sign of recognition and something that makes it legitimate to tap your own shoulder for a moment. ;) Still, it just didn’t feel right to talk about it before, I mean – it’s just a story if you really make it, kind of. Know what I mean?

Why blog…
Introduction
I had a controversial discussion with my fellow office room mate Thorsten the other day about ‘blogging’ and its implications, which I wanted to share with you. The pivot point of this discussion was about whether or not it is a ‘good idea’ of exposing too many information about oneself to public. While that is certainly an important aspect of blogging, I would really like to put this nuance aside for a minute and talk about my motivation to blog first (and then get back to that particular aspect.)
