SAP Mentors #2 – Reflections on the @gapingvoid webinar

Introduction

SAP Mentor Logo (lemon) There’s so much happening in that high signal space that is the SAP Mentor program and the extended community (aka friendly wolf-pack) that I take it as a good opportunity to wrap-up some of that experience in another episode of my corresponding blog series.

Having been around on SCN for a while and being a regular at the SAP TechEds I could not help, but noticing this group within the SAP ecosystem. For those who know (and maybe follow) them, they look omni-present in the SAP space and especially in the twitterverse. Being a global group of dedicated individuals with a wide range of expertise and skills and a commonly-shared attitude for open communication clearly results in an impressive activity stream. Being a newbie mentor I only now start to realize “how deep the rabbit-hole goes” and the constant flow of incoming tweets talking about the mentor magic is truly fascinating. I knew I’d be in for the ride of my life, but let me tell you – I had no idea!

Here’s my humble attempt to digest some of it by sharing it with you…

I18N | How-to support custom resource bundles (on NWCE)

Introduction

After several conventional posts in the last couple of months I’ve been thinking about blogging more about technical topics again in order not to loose my credibility of being an architect and coder (well, whatever is left of that anyway!) And just how it should be, I didn’t have to look out for an interesting topic for too long – it found me. In my current project we have this use-case of allowing customers to change existing message texts we ship as OSP (Original Sourcecode Provider) plus add news.) As this is a typical non-functional requirement inherent to Internationalisation (short: I18N) I figured it would be a great topic, even more so as it also falls into my favorite niche – extensibility. ;)

Impressions from SAP TechEd 2010 Las Vegas

SAP TechEd 2010 Berlin Badge

What happens in Vegas – stays in Vegas!

…or so the saying goes, right? Well, I guess that only applies for stories that are not ‘kosher‘ or NOT suitable to share with a public audience (aka NSFW.) And while Las Vegas certainly provides a lot of opportunities for such stories, there are indeed plenty of good reasons to talk about what is happening in Vegas. Especially if there’s SAP TechEd in town, so here we go…

Just as I did with my wrap-up blog post about SAP TechEd Berlin, I’ll try my best to summarize the event by cross-referencing other people’s great blogs. Those who know me, also know that one of my favorite topics and area of expertise is composition. Hence, I thought why try to write it all down myself and still go second-best to what other people already wrote about the event? Not the way to go… instead, I’ll go ahead and wrap it all up via composition or, if that term doesn’t strike a nerve, let’s call it enterprise mash-up! ;)
